The Armoury's Guide to Chinos

Our in Depth Look at Our Best Selling Pant

History of the Chino

Chinos as we know them today have a history stemming from military uniforms. The term originally was in reference to the cloth known for its smooth texture and durability. Today, chinos are generally made from a lightweight cotton twill.

Our Chinos are made for us by Ring Jacket in Japan and have become our favorite casual ready-to-wear pant. Featuring one piece integrated waistbands, medium to high rise and various options in fit, they are flattering on all body types.

Our Fits
The Sport Chino

Taking inspiration from vintage military uniforms, our Sport Chino features refined details including lapped side seams, a classic flat front, a medium rise, and tapered legs. Crafted from soft cotton milled in Italy, it is perfect for three-season wear.

The Pleated Chino

The Pleated Chino showcases double pleats, a medium rise, and tapered legs. It includes the same refined details as our Sport Chino, such as lapped side seams and is crafted from the same soft cotton milled in Italy.

The Army Chino

The Army Chino features double-needle stitching, lapped side seams, a high rise, and straight legs. It offers a wider fit compared to its slightly more formal counterparts. Crafted from dense cotton, these chinos soften beautifully with age.

Mark Cho in The Sport Chino
Cuffed and Ready

“As with our polo, our Short Chino has its roots in the world of sportswear. We evolved these classics to fit with our vision of a tailored wardrobe. I still have my pairs from when we first launched the Sport Chino. They have held up beautifully over the years.”

Bruce Boyer in The Pleated Chino
Two Pleats Are Better Than One

Our friend Bruce Boyer is no stranger to chinos, or pleats for that matter. He was one of the first people who tried our pleated chino after its release. When he came by the shop searching for a tweed fabric for his next sport coat commission, he kindly obliged when we asked to snap a few shots. Bruce is famous for his traditional, but never stuffy, take on menswear, and we think our pleated chino fits right in with his classic take on tailoring.

Paul Howard in The Army Chino
Utility and Style

Paul is a member of our Upper East Side team and his take on workwear made him the perfect fit for trying our Army Chino. Thanks to the tougher fabric and double needle stitching, this chino is best suited to the rough and tumble life of a photographer who is not afraid to get into the weeds to get his perfect shot.
