The Armoury's newest sport coats feature fabrics we've sourced from the finest mills in the world. Here, we take a deep dive into their origins and offer shirt and tie suggestions to complete the look.
Sure to be one of the standout pieces from the new collection, the deep colors have been woven into a classic gun club pattern, perfect for adding some colors you would usually find in heavy tweed's into a summer wardrobe. The fabric itself is a Linen/Wool woven by Lanificio di Pray in northernmost Italy, close to the Swiss border. We've paired it with our essential Drake's Silk Grossa Grenadine tie.
This high-twist fabric from Arthur Harrison has a fine houndstooth or "puppytooth" pattern. Woven in England in navy and white, the high-twist weave allows air to flow through the cloth, allowing it to breath and remain comfortable in the warmer months. The inspiration for this cloth was mid-century 60's style sport coats. Here, we've paired it with one of our new seven-fold ties from Tie Your Tie in a silk/cotton blend and classic end-on-end shirt.
The Pecora Nera series from Loro Piana has been a favorite of ours since we first handled it a few years back. The fabric is left completely undyed, and the distinctive colors come from natural varitions in a special breed of sheep that carry ancient dark gene variants (modern sheep have light wool that is easier to dye). The result is an natural, ultra-soft, durable and exceptionally light fabric, ideal for wear in the transitional seasons. Here we introduce a beige version of this robust cloth in both The Armoury Model 3 and Model 6. We've paired it with one of our new ties from Liverano & Liverano in a floral printed silk.
The Model 7 forgoes canvassing and linings to create a sport coat that fits more like a sweater than a jacket. Designed for comfort and wearability, the Model 7 can easily be packed for travel. This season we went with a cotton seersucker by the Italian mill Solbiati, a family company for over 140 years that is known for their fine cottons and linens. Combining this fine cotton with our lightest sport coat model makes for an exceptionally light jacket, perfect for the warmest days of summer. We've paired it with our classic end-on-end shirt and a Drake's knit tie.
